COUNSELOR SUPERVISION

April Cunningham, MA, LPCC-S, CWC

April Cunningham, MA, LPCC-S, CWC (she/her/hers) is a cisgender, pansexual, white, married woman. She is a Supervising Clinical Therapist, Outreach Coordinator, and serves on the Leadership Team at Clintonville Counseling and Wellness. April received her BA in Psychology and an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from The Ohio State University. Additionally, she is a Certified Wellness Counselor, a trained Hypnotherapist and has sought training in mindfulness/meditation, nutrition, and Emotional Freedom Technique, as well as other mind-body approaches. She is currently working on her certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Her approach is integrative and holistic in nature, and applies attachment, existential, feminist, narrative, and queer theories.

April believes that growth as a clinician is a parallel process of both personal and professional development. As a supervisor, she believes it is her job to help clinicians develop their own therapeutic approach to counseling that is both firmly grounded in theory and research but also deeply unique, personal, and authentic. While tools and techniques are often discussed in her supervision sessions, April believes it is the clinician themselves who are the most powerful tool in the therapy room. As such, she encourages clinicians to focus on their awareness and understanding of themselves as much as their awareness of the clients they see. She is immediately available for individual and group supervision for those professionals seeking independent licensure or supervisory credential.
