Sara Provenzale, MA, LPC, (she/they) is a grounded and feisty counselor who engages, supports, and challenges clients toward healing and growth. She uses psychological research alongside humor, mindful presence, art, body awareness, and play. Sara’s most recent degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling combines her commitment to social justice, her belief in the dignity of every life, and a keen clinical understanding of mental illness. Sara is an eclectic counselor combining theories of Mindfulness, Attachment, Neurobiology, CBT, DBT, Systems, Body Regulation (somatic), Schema Therapy, Existential, and Person-Centered therapy. She welcomes questions and challenges from clients about her approach and clinical plan.

Sara’s first degree was a BA in interdisciplinary studies of gender, race, and environmental science. She went on to travel Latin America with two young children, and then received a MA in Latin American Spanish. That decade of travel and education lead her to the unfortunate conclusion that the world was built on devaluing humans and nature in favor of money, which has made a difficult environment for many folks and the planet. Understanding this context is a backdrop of all of her work and is included in her treatment approach. Sara’s previous work has included a women’s clinic, a racial awareness program, a men’s prison, and community mental health. Along the way she raised two children (conceived by donor insemination) into adulthood, which was her most important and challenging work, but for which she received no degrees and little recognition. Sara supports parents and families (chosen or by birth) in the hard work of sheltering one another and growing well together. Sara’s own family has a history of severe mental illness and suicides, though they had very little understanding of mental health to support them through it. Sara works with families and people dealing with severe mental illnesses with kindness, support, information and hope.
